James Walter Strickler, 74, Retired Physician's Assistant, died Saturday, January 15, 2022. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Wednesday, January 19, 2022; Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am, Thursday, January 20, 2022, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.
James was born June 10, 1947 in Portsmouth, OH to John and Fairy Moon Strickler, who precede him in death. He would go on to attend Portsmouth High School, graduating in 1965, before receiving his degree in Biology from Baker University and his Physician’s Assistant degree from Alderson Broaddus University in Philippi, WV. He also served in the United States Air Force, spending time in Oklahoma, the Philippines, and Thailand.
In his spare time, he was a private pilot and amateur radio operator.
James finished his career working at the Hertzler Clinic in Halstead, KS and Galicia Heart Hospital in Wichita, KS.
Survived by his brother, John (Anita) Strickler of Rose Hill, KS; niece, Jai Ellen Strickler; nephew, Bob Blankenbeckley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial has been established with: American Heart Association, 1861 N. Rock Rd. #380, Wichita, KS 67206.
I will truly miss my Uncle. He was a great man and an even greater Uncle. The memory I will cherish the most is the time he let me into the back pasture on the 4-wheeler and instead of waiting for him to close the gate, I drove off without him just laughing. I eventually picked him up at the gate, but not without having some fun. I love you and miss you, Uncle Jim. Give grandma and grandpa a hug for me.
