Slothower, Janis Marie Reynolds, 86, homemaker and community volunteer, died Monday, January 1, 2007. Service 1:30 P.M., Saturday, January 6, Grace Presbyterian Church. Preceded in death by husband, Theron I. Slothower and parents, Ernest V. and Hazel (Earnest) Reynolds. Survivors, daughter, Becky S. Turner (Roger) of Wichita; grandchildren, Stephanie A. Turner of Chicago, Il and Justin B. Turner (Leslie) of St. Paul, MN. Janis Marie Reynolds was born December 2, 1920 in Cherryvale, KS to Hazel and Ernest Reynolds. She later lived in Coffeyville and Independence, KS. Her father transferred to Wichita with K G E and later Innes Department Store, moving the family into the College Hill neighborhood. Janis attended Robinson Junior High School and graduated from East High School. She attended the University of Wichita, where she was a member of Alpha Tau Sorority (Delta Gamma) and participated in numerous campus activities. Janis married Theron Slothower on October 13, 1940. They had one daughter, Becky. Janis was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, volunteer and friend. She was caring, considerate, giving and a detailed story teller. She was always able to find humor, even in the most difficult situations. Janis was a devoted volunteer for Wichita East Shepherds Center and Lamplighters. She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church, Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum, WSU Alumni Association, Wichita Center for the Arts, Wichita Art Museum, Project Beauty and Friday Revue Book Club.
