Jared Michael Jeb Rathbone

Jared Michael “Jeb” Rathbone was born February 4, 1977 in Wichita, Kansas to Michael Rathbone and Susan Reiff Rathbone (Brown). He died May 9th, 2017 in Gunnison, Colorado. Cause of death is not yet known, but he had been struggling with severe Type I diabetes for several years. Jeb was raised in Wichita and graduated from Kapaun-Mt. Carmel High School in 1995. He then attended Kansas University. Jeb was a very good athlete and an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed tennis, golf and fishing. His love of the mountains, especially snowboarding, prompted him to move to Colorado in 2016. He was employed by Crested Butte Mountain Ski Resort. Jeb was a fan of Kansas University football and basketball and never missed a game. He also loved a good book and enjoyed the Rathbone Family Book Club, texting back and forth with his sisters and brother about book ideas. His special love was his family: his brother, Joey, and his sisters, Molly and Susanna, as well as his cousin, Cindy Reiff George, and his nephew, Quin Maxwell. He was a kind and loving person and had a special ability with children. Jeb was well liked by all who knew him. He is survived by his father, Michael (Lynda) Rathbone; mother, Susan (Hal) Brown; sisters, Molly (Peter) Maxwell and Susanna (Mike) Jones; brother, Joel Rathbone; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be so missed by all who knew him and especially by his family. A memorial service will be held in Wichita, Kansas on Monday, May 22, 2017, at 10:00 A.M at Downing & Lahey Funeral Home, 6555 E Central Ave, Wichita, KS 67206. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established at MERCY AND TRUTH MEDICAL MISSIONS, 721 N. 31st Street, Kansas City, Kansas, 66102.
