Jeanette J. Phelan, 95, died Monday, April 24, 2023. She was the daughter of Paul Jeffery and Mary Anna Jeffery. She was born in Ellsworth, Kansas, on November 11, 1927. Her siblings were Edward Jeffrey (deceased in 2015) and Cheryl Flanders, currently of Wichita. Jeanette graduated from Holyrood High School and attended many of their reunions through the years. After attending one year at Wichita State University, she traveled by train to Portland, Oregon. That trip was a highlight of her life.In 1948 at age 21 she was married at Blessed Sacrament Church to Philip Patrick Phelan and they were married for over 40 years until his death in 1990. Soon after her marriage, she converted to Catholicism and that religion was a primary part of her life until her death. They had three children, Jean Kathleen Phelan, Joan Kristin Phelan and Paul Philip Phelan and 5 grandchildren, Joshua Tyson, Gabriel Phelan, Maxfield Yoder, Victoria Phelan Graham, and Tyson Phelan-Graham.Her professional career in accounting spanned 30 years and included positions in accounts receivable at St. Joseph's Hospital and accounts manager at Wichita Radiological Group. She also enjoyed painting with watercolors, dancing, visiting museums and attending the yearly Wichita's River Festival. She was an avid devotee of exercise and healthy eating. She was a regular at Genesis Health Club. After her retirement she worked part time for several years at the health food store Green Acres.In 2007 she married a longtime friend Leo DeBroech at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Wichita. They enjoyed socializing, dancing at several area clubs, going to concerts and out to eat.Rosary will be at 9:30 am, Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, April 29, 2023, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Services in care of Downing & Lahey Mortuary - East Chapel.
