Jeanette L. Gabbert

September 4, 1925 ~ September 4, 2022
Jeanette L Gabbert, born September 4, 1925, passed from this life with many prayers on her 97th birthday. Jeanette (Jeannie, Gabby) served her country proudly as a Tech Sgt. in the USAF, with most of her time being spent in Colorado Springs where she received multiple commendations. After her military career, she returned to Wichita where she worked for and retired from the USPS. She and her partner of nearly 50 years, Melba, spent their retirement years in Texas and then Missouri. After Melba’s passing, Jeanette moved back to Wichita to be closer to her many nieces and nephews and later her sister. She was a woman who loved fiercely and was fierce in mind and spirit. She continued to study courses through National Geographic, work many types of puzzles and read vigorously well into her 90’s. Preceding her in death were here life partner, Melba Mullin, her parents, and all but one of her 7 siblings. She is survived by her youngest sister, Gloria Chestnut, who lovingly cared for her over the past several years, numerous nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. Family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone at the VA and Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to Jeanette during her final days.
Rest Jeanette, until you hear at dawn, the low, clear reveille of God. Thank you for your service to this nation. U.S. Air Force.
We were so sorry to read of Jeanette’s passing in Sunday’s Eagle. We had no idea that she had been very ill and in hospice, and that a service had already been held. I am so sorry to have missed service. We treasure the friendship she had with our Aunt Elva York. They were both such special people! Judi and Emmett Kraus
