Jerry was always a favorite of mine! He was always happy and had a smile on his face. In high school, he was a great dancer and I always had fun dancing with him! I was a freshman at Allen County College and didn’t have a date to the prom. I invited Jerry, (who was a junior in high school, I think) to be my date and we had a great time. He has remained a friend over all these years.
I knew Jerry was having a battle ,but heard he needed time to get back up to par, guess I should have tried to get in touch sooner, we grew up in the same hood and did the night stalking, Gary and Bret and Fred and all of you who remember, and Jerry was an onery cuss when we were kids , see you at some time in the future buddy
Oh my Dear Jeff, I’m so very sorry. I just found out today (Sunday 11/23/08) I loved your parents so very, very much. I still have your mom’s obit in my office and I look at it every single day. She was such an inspiration to me and Jerry was, well among meny other things, such a dynamic person. I might not have kept in contact with him frequently, but just knowing he was in our world, I felt safe. Please know your parents were very special and were \very important and lasting part of my life. I cherished all the time I spent with them individually. With Fran as my Boss at the Residence Inn and with Jerry with Ducks Unlimited. They were both not only professional collegues, but personal and very dear friends. I will miss them Jeff, I will truly miss them. I love you and know you will always have a friend.
Jerry was one of a kind. He touched many people in his life and they were never the same. I would not trade the rich friendship I had as his friend for anything in the world. I worked for Jerry as his personal secretary at Amerkan Resources before he began his real estate development business in Branson Missouri. It was hard to leave him and work somewhere else – to give up joking around with him and working with him but unfortunately, his business was faltering. He was giving, loving and had a roaring sense of humor. I attended several Ducks Unlimited functions – one in a Teal outfit for an auction and I went to several of his dog trials for his Springer Spaniels. We had many many good times and I will miss him with all of my heart. I am sad he is gone but glad that he is with our Lord, Jesus Christ. He often said to me, ‘WHO LOVES YOU BABY?’ Well, Jerry you knew I always thought you were the best thing since sliced bread. I Love you, Diana
To the Family and loved ones of Jerry Hoggatt, we send our deepest condolences. Oh how difficult it is to find the right words to say, we will be praying for you. I can still hear Jerry’s laugh and see his smile. Hold onto your memories.
I was a classmate of Jerry’s and always looked forward to seeing him at class reunions. He always had a loving embrace to give to each one he saw. We grew up in the same neighborhood in Iola, Kansas and in our youth would play nightgames during the summer months. I can still hear him say ‘Do you want to play some nightgames’? Jerry, we will all miss you. Our prayers will be with you and your family.
My condolences to Pam and Ruth and of course the rest of the family. Reading about Jerry takes Gary and I back MANY years. I no longer have Pam’s cyber address so Bless you and hug on your mom for me.
In the short time I have known Jerry I have been inspired by his amazing personality. Always kind & outgoing, he had a wonderful wit and sense of humor. His kindness and generosity have clearly made a difference in the lives of countless others. What a legacy!
It’s very hard to say good-bye to such a dear friend….so many years….so many memories. We feel blessed to have seen Jerry in Iola at the class reunion and for having the chance to meet JoAnn. Please know JoAnn, Jeff, Jana and the extended family that our hearts ache deeply for you all. You have had a fabulous man of integrity, caring and humor to love and enjoy. Cherish those memories, as I know you will. Our prayers are with you as you celebrate the life of Jerry. We are enroute from Florida to Missouri and Illinois to be with family so we’re unable to join you for the celebration of life and services. Jerry’s pain is now gone and he’s smiling down on one and all. That’s just who he is!
It was a lucky day in my life when I met Jerry he became a good friend one that I was very proud of . He was always lifting others up and willing to do anything for anyone. When we went to feild trials and I took my children he treated them like they were his, they loved Jerry. Even though we havent been able to see each other for the last couple of years we talked he was proud of his family talked about them offten Joann, Jeff, Janna and grand children. It always made me feel good to talk with him and just knowing he was there, he will be greatly missed . Love Mark Henry
Dear Hoggatt family: I first met Jerry through my husband and the Wichita Crime Commission. Then Jerry and I became fellow patients at the Cancer Center of Kansas in Wichita and our paths crossed often. Jerry was always warm, cheerful, smiling and a cheerleader for all at CCK, patients, staff, nurses and doctors alike. He was loved and respected by all there and his personality and attitude will be sorely missed. I shared our thoughts about Jerry with Jeff last week following the Wichita Crime Commission dinner, where Jerry was honored. Be assured that Jerry and all his family are in our prayers.
I remember Jerry as always being full of life, and sweeping everyone around him into his vortex of good cheer. His unforgettable voice and sense of humor always brought a smile to my face. He was always a gentleman, a word that doesn’t apply to as many anymore. I haven’t seen him in a long time, but I can still hear his rallying a group by saying ‘Let’s make a memory’. Well Jerry, it worked – thanks for the memories.
The passing of Jerry will certainly leave a void in the Wichita Crime Commission. For the past 12 years he has been a very active member of the Commission and more importantly a good friend. My heart felt condolences to all members of his family.
