Jerry Dean Eicher, 59, devout and faithful servant to our Heavenly Father, passed away peacefully in Wichita, KS on Sunday, March 22, 2026. His funeral Service will be at 10:00 am, Friday, March 27, 2026, at Downing & Lahey West Mortuary, Wichita, KS. Service will be live streamed and can be viewed by clicking the ” Watch Funeral Service” button below.
Jerry was born on December 28, 1966, in Newton, KS. His early years were spent with his family on a dairy farm near Hesston, KS. When Jerry was 6 years old the family moved to a farm in the Monument, KS area, near Oakley. Jerry attended school at Monument Elementary and graduated from Oakley High School in 1986. Two years later he received an Associate in Science degree from Colby Community College. It was during his time there that Jerry grew to know and accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and dedicated his life to serving God. This would become the primary focus of Jerry’s life.
After graduation from Colby Community College, Jerry moved to the Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN area to attend North Central Bible College (now North Central University). There Jerry threw himself into learning the Bible, Biblical history, theology, as well as the Hebrew language. Those who knew Jerry well would accurately describe him as a Biblical scholar. Jerry loved the Lord and discussing Holy Scripture. He spent his life continuing to study and learn more as his faith continued to deepen. We are confident that Jerry’s deep faith journey is now being richly rewarded where Almighty God shall wipe away every tear from the eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning, wailing or pain (Revelation 21:4), for those who sow in tears shall reap rejoicing (Psalms 126:5).
After a time at North Central Bible College, Jerry transferred to Metropolitan State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree focusing on computer science. Throughout his life Jerry had a keen interest in science and understanding how things work. As a child, there were times when Jerry could be found reading an encyclopedia in his free time. During either the 5th or 6th grade, Jerry took apart a clock radio and rewired it to turn on a light bulb when the alarm went off. There were times that he created his own experiments, some of which worked better than others. Regardless of the results, Jerry understood that the goal in science is learning. Whether it was Biblical or scientific, Jerry continued to be a lifelong learner.
During his time in Minnesota, Jerry attended Woodland Hills Church and for several years lived with a group of friends who referred to themselves as a covenant group. There he deepened his spiritual friendships and, with the group, ministered to the neighborhood children and adults with activities, food, and prayer. Jerry also taught a study on peace-keeping that is still remembered today.
Throughout his adult life Jerry held numerous jobs, primarily in mortgage banking and customer service. However, those jobs were more of a means to an end. His other interests and passions were the focus of his life.
Jerry is preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Eicher; grandparents, Norman and Marjorie Eicher, and Harry and Iva Unruh. Jerry is survived by his father, Ervin Eicher and wife Vicki; sister, Anita (Craig Pack) Eicher-Pack; brothers, Terry Eicher, Jake (Becky) Eicher; nieces, Dalen (Connor Kirchens) Eicher, Alaina Eicher; nephews, Jonah Eicher, and Cooper Pack.

I am writing it here,
Jerry and I were good friends for about 25 years.
We talked on the phone monthly (usually on Sundays.)
Often, we talked about religion, politics, health and food.
Overall, our friendship was peaceful. He lived a life that
reflected his devotion to what’s in the Bible and faith in
Jesus. Anne T. Craigmyle
Romans 12:18 “If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”
The next verse I probably would not have read at the funeral in order to keep it short… but I include it here: “Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.” 2 Corinthians 13:11
