JoAnne “Jody” (McMahon) Vincent, 90, was born Mar. 21, 1932 in Marysville, KS and died Aug. 16, 2022 in Wichita, KS. She was the 4th child born to John William and Rheva (McBride) McMahon. The middle child of seven, she was the person family and friends turned to – she listened attentively and provided sage counsel. She kept a Christian home for her family and was a role model as a mom and friend. JoAnne was a person easy to admire and respect. We were blessed to have her as our loving mom.
JoAnne graduated high school in Marysville, KS in 1950 with her future husband, Bob. JoAnne worked for Sears in Kansas City, MO, and then Boeing in Wichita after graduation. JoAnne married Robert L. Vincent 6/6/52 in Marysville, KS. The young couple lived in Manhattan as Bob pursued his degree at Kansas State University while JoAnne worked for State Farm Insurance. Their first child, Linda, was born in Manhattan. They lived briefly at Ft. Bliss, El Paso, TX after Bob’s graduation. Then they moved to Wamego where their second child, Brad, was born in Manhattan.
JoAnne and Bob moved to Wichita in 1957 when Bob took a job with the Layne-Western company. When both children reached elementary school, JoAnne began to pursue a college degree at Wichita State University. Shortly after, their third child, Eric, was born in Wichita. In 1968 Bob was transferred to Garden City, KS. JoAnne resumed her studies and graduated from Garden City Community College in May 1973. Another move occurred as Bob was transferred to Woodland, California in 1979. JoAnne completed her Bachelor of Arts in Childhood Development at California State University, Sacramento in January 1982. She worked in early childhood education in Woodland, Winters, and Davis, CA. JoAnne and Bob returned to Wichita in 1983, where JoAnne supported Bob as his office staff as they founded Ground Water Associates. She also earned her real estate license and worked briefly as a realtor.
She was a member of Eastern Star, Rotary Ann’s, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and the Kansas State University Alumni Association. At times she was active in the Republican Party in Kansas. She was a charter member of Metropolitan Baptist Church.
JoAnne was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Rheva Marie Rothe, Mary Elizabeth Shumaker, Lavonne Irene Ungerer, and brother John William McMahon, Jr. She is survived by her children Linda Vincent-Smith (Brad Smith) Gardner, KS; Brad Vincent (Alexis), Goddard, KS; and Eric Vincent (Lisa), Woodland, CA; grandchildren Ashley Glisson (Kevin), Olathe, KS; Andrew and Adam Vincent, Goddard, KS, and David, Doug, and Conor Vincent, Woodland, CA; great-granddaughters Melissa and Grace Glisson; sister Nila Jean Olson, Akron, OH; brother Larry George McMahon, Midwest City, OK; special nephew Scott Rothe, Emporia, KS; and many other nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.

For those wishing to make a memorial contribution we suggest Samaritan’s Purse (https://www.samaritanspurse.org/) or Heart to Heart International (https://www.hearttoheart.org/).
Our Jody has gone home to be with her loved ones and her Savior, Jesus. Tho we sorrow, there can be no greater joy than that. One of my memories took place in 1949 at our High School Homecoming football game. Jody had been elected the Homecoming Queen, and I had the pleasure of being the King. During the football half-time, under the lights, we paraded, arm in arm, onto the field as the band played. At the appropriate time this King planted a kiss on the Queen’s sweet lips. The King got away with it because Jody’s “sweetie” was in the football fieldhouse being mentored by the coach. Al Lohse P.S. A gift has been sent to Samaritan’s Purse in Jody’s memory.
Aunt Jody always had a gracious smile and was happy to see her nieces come and stay for the summer time. Her cooking was exceptional. I remember the first time I had a rack of lamb she prepared it and served it with mint jelly. Her beef stroganoff was very tasty as well. She taught us how to make our own patterns in our sewing endeavors and was a positive force in my life.
