John Bannister, 77, partner in General Oil Company in Wichita for 30 years and sole owner of Frisco Oil until his retirement in 2007, died Friday, May 13, 2022. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Thursday, May 19, 2022, at Downing & Lahey West Mortuary. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am, Friday, May 20, 2022, at Bethel Life Center. John enjoyed playing golf and competitive card games at The Spot. Preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Mary Bannister. Survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Bannister; daughter, Lisa Bannister; son, Chris (Andi) Bannister; brothers, Bill (Connie) Bannister, Sam (Dana) Bannister; 3 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild all of Wichita, KS. A memorial has been established with: Alzheimer's Association, Central & Western Kansas, 1820 E. Douglas Ave., Wichita, KS 67214, and Amedisys Hospice Foundation, 250 W. Douglas Ave., Suite 110, Wichita, KS 67202. Though John suffered for many years with Alzheimer's, his faith in the Lord never wavered.

Godspeed John. A good and decent man and a “Hilltopper” from long ago. John was a loving soul that will be dearly missed, and lovingly remembered. My sympathies to John’s family, friends and loved ones.

John was a great friend and golf partner for many years. He loved his bride, his Lord, and his wonderful life. I never witnessed him in a foul mood and he was always a joy to be with. A life well lived. Godspeed John
John, my dear brother and friend, I will always cherish my memories of you. So many times you were a refuge for me understanding what I couldn’t find words to say. Thank you for that. Although I didn’t get to see you these last years, you knew as well as I, love finds its way though all things including time and distance. I’m wishing you a most hearty Godspeed!
Condolences to Barbra and family. John leaves a beautiful memory to his family, he was a true Christian , loving husband who always expressed his love and gratitude for his wife and family. I knew John for many years. I met him when I was a teenager working at the Spot. After I became a lawyer we would see each other from time to time. He was always a joy to see. He had a wonderful personality. He treated me with great respect as a teenager and I will never forget his kindness and personality.
