Reimer, John E., 79, Owner of Reimer Car and Truck Plaza, Inc. of Wichita, died Tuesday, August 27, 2013. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, August 30, 2013 at Downing Lahey Mortuary East. Memorial Service will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 31, 2013, at Eastminster Presbyterian Church. John was born in Meade, Kansas on January 24, 1934. He married Shirley McBee on January 12, 1954. They would have been married 60 years this coming January. John was a long time businessman and entrepreneur. He started his first car dealership in Hillsboro, Kansas in 1954. He bought the Ford dealership in McPherson, Kansas in 1972 and opened the new Reimer Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury in 1973 which he ran until 1989. John and Shirley moved to Wichita, Kansas in 1989 and have since lived there and in Scottsdale, Arizona. John always believed in service to his community and served on the board of Central College in McPherson and the McPherson Board of Public Utilities. He was a long-time volunteer at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale where we know his friendliness and generosity helped many people in difficult times. His family, friends and his faith were the most important parts of his life. Preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Reimer and sons, Bradley and John Douglas Reimer. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Reimer of Wichita; children, Treva Reimer (Keith Ratzlaff), of Pella, IA, Gordon (Pat) Reimer of McPherson, Diana Knigge of Atlanta, GA, Shirley Lynn Reimer (Karl Schumacher) of Tempe, AZ, John (Kathy) Reimer of Cave Creek, AZ; brother, Albert Reimer of Hillsboro, KS; 6 grandchildren, Bret Reimer, Elizabeth Browne, Erin Crites, Nicole Knigge, Connor Schumacher, Max Schumacher; 4 great-grandchildren, Isabella Browne, Asher Browne, Addison Reimer, Grayson Reimer. Memorials have been established with Union Rescue Mission, Inc., 2800 N. Hillside St., Wichita, KS 67219; and Inter-Faith Ministries, 829 N. Market St. Wichita, KS 67214.
