John H. Tanton, Jr., 89, died Sunday, October 21, 2018. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Downing and Lahey Mortuary West Chapel. Service 10:00 AM, Friday, October 26, 2018 at Asbury Church. John was born October 24, 1928 in Ellsworth, KS to John and Roxy (Curtis) Tanton. He served in the Army from February 1951- February 1953. He owned a successful construction company and worked in Ellsworth until he retired. He and his wife moved to Wichita to be near family in 2006. Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Max Tanton. Survivors: wife, Nancy A. (Smith), daughter, Stephanie (Dean) Jones, daughter, Heather Sykes, son, Patrick (Lanitha) Tanton, daughter, Rebecca (Dan) Walter and 11 grandkids. Memorials may be given to Cindis Hope, PO Box 4834, Wichita, KS 67204.

    When I saw the last name ‘Tanton’ in the Salina paper, I recognized it and immediately opened the obituary, only to find that John was your beloved husband. I remember praying so fervently for his healing after his auto accident 3 years ago. Both Doug and I send our deepest sympathy to you and your children. May John rest in peace and may his memory be eternal.

  6. What a totally awesome guy! One of my many favorites to pick On at McDonalds with all the coffee drinking group! John was such an interesting and intelligent person and such fun to visit with. He will be greatly missed! Thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and family to such a dear dear person. Rest in peace dear sweet John. God is smiling to have such a great guy and hes presence !!
