John “Jack” H. Call, 88, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025.
Jack was born October 29, 1936, in Pittsburg, Kansas to Emory and Roselle (Fox) Call. He grew up on the family farm in southeast Kansas and moved to Wichita after high school where he learned the masonry trade.
He married Betty Little on December 27, 1958. They moved to Liberal, Kansas in 1959 where they lived for 54 years. During that time, he established Call Stone Company, Call Rental Center, The Ranch (a residential development) and partnered to establish a janitorial supply company. He served in the National Guard for 11 years, worked as a police officer and a volunteer fireman. In 2013 they moved to Wichita, Kansas.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, son Russell, siblings, Jim Call, Kay Meyer, and Bill Call. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty; sons, Mike (Patricia) Call, Doug (Tina) Call; daughter, Laura (Dan) Zavala; and daughter-in-law Bobi Call; sisters, Joan (Kenneth) Westoff, Rosemary (Darrell) Alexander, Jean (John) Blaes; brothers. Don Call and Tom Call; grandchildren, Andrew Call, Adam Call, Jeremy Call, Jed Call, Blake Edwards, Georgia Zavala, Ryan Zavala and Amy Garnsey; great grandchildren, Ruger Call, Justice Call, Archer Call and Ella Garnsey.
He was an active member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic church in Liberal before moving to Wichita and worked on various projects including the construction of the new church facility. He was a member of the Liberal Chamber of Commerce and the state chamber while in business, holding the office of Liberal president and was always a strong supporter of small businesses. He served as a board member at Peoples National Bank and later Community Bank of Liberal. He enjoyed both water and snow skiing and was a private pilot. He and Betty spent their retirement RVing, taking trips from Texas to Alaska and points in between.
Rosary will be at 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 18, 2025, Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am on Friday, September 19, 2025, both at St. Jude Catholic Church. A memorial has been established with: St. Jude Catholic Church, Building Fund, 3030 N. Amidon, Wichita, KS 67204.
