Jon Martin Tiger

February 24, 1949 ~ April 12, 2025
Jon Martin Tiger, age 76, passed away on April 12, 2025, following a lengthy lung illness. He was born and raised in Crowley, LA, a small town in southwest Louisiana, where he graduated high school and started college before joining the US Air Force. He dearly loved his country.
Jon spent his military tour in Wichita where he found a new hometown. He worked at Cessna Aircraft Company while attending Wichita State University. Following graduation, he joined the Boeing Company where he worked for 34 years before retirement, and then at Spirit Aerosystems for 7 years.
Jon was active in his church serving as an elder, chaired the nominating, the bylaws, and the pastor search committees. He served on the long-range planning and the missions committees. He ran the sound system, sang on worship team, taught adult Sunday School, and led a Small Group by Zoom. Once a month he worked at The Lord’s Diner. The activity that provided him the most joy was leading a men’s Bible study for about 12 years.
Jon was active in the community, serving on the Wichita Symphony board for 20 years during which time he was board chair for two terms. He was a board member for the Wichita Community Theatre, the Wichita Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Wichita Program, and the Wichita Chapter of SHRM - the Society for Human Resource Management. He was a Big Brother with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Sedgwick County. Jon was co-founder and president of a national organization established to improve the lives of people on supplementary oxygen.
Jon won his first sailboat in a radio contest and sailing became a lifelong passion. Even on O2 he raced Hobie Cats all over the country and sailed in the Caribbean. He loved to play cards, read, put together puzzles, do crosswords, play video games, and watch TV. He not only loved great food but also enjoyed cooking it.
Jon is survived by his wife of 42 years, Laurel; sister-in-law Mindi McKenna (Joe); brother-in-law Ken Fouty (Cathy); nephews and nieces Matt Clinton (Kim), Mike Clinton (Kit), Shanna Clinton (Heather Youngs), Chris Fouty, Joe Fouty (Abbey), and Josh McKenna (Rachel); great nephews and nieces Daniel and Cole Clinton (Kodie); Julip, Nico, and Tyne Youngs; Paisley, Henry, and Jackson Fouty; Miles, Max, Luke, Georgia, and Tommy McKenna; Jon’s cousins Chuck Reeves (Peggy) and Connie McCay (Mick); nephew Charley Reeves (Allison), niece Mary Margaret Arthur (Dewey); great nephew and nieces Reeves Arthur, Maggie Arthur, Katherine and Caroline Reeves. Very sorry to learn of his passing. Enjoyed our time together when we attended church at East Evangelical Free Church.
Jon loved his Savior Jesus, and that love was the foundation for his love for all who knew him. He leaves a wonderful legacy. Tender condolences to Laurel and family. Marlin & Jan
Jon’s positive outlook was inspiring. Rest in peace my friend.
I knew Jon from Cessna and Boeing .
Very smart and capable HR guy.
More importantly a good friend with my upmost respect .
Condolences to the family.
Jon was a special Christian man. He loved a spirited round of Pitch, but he was patient and kind to explain the rules for those of us who didn’t know them. We will miss his quick wit and warm smile. In loving memory, Mark and Julie Goldberg
ACTS 24:15
“AND I HAVE HOPE TOWARD GOD, WHICH HOPE THESE MEN ALSO LOOK FORWARD TO, THAT THERE IS GOING TO BE A RESURRECTION OF BOTH THE RIGHTEOUS AND THE UNRIGHTEOUS.”
I worked around Jon while in HR and had the utmost respect for him as a person. He was someone you could always trust. I’m saddened to learn of his passing at an early age, but I’m confident heaven has accepted a wonderful individual. As heavens’ door opens, Jon is beginning his new life free from the tether of oxygen. Go Rest High my co-worker. Sondra Wilson
Laurel, we were so sad to read of Jons passing. He was such a gregarious personality and such a good friend in younger days. He will be missed.
