Joseph Franklin Powell

Powell, Joseph Franklin 73, of Wichita, KS, passed away July 9, 2011. Joe was born September 1, 1939, in Hutchinson, KS, to Joseph and Hazel Powell. A resident of Hutchinson until a few years ago, Joe was a retired Captain of the Hutchinson Fire Department and former owner of Hutchinson Lockout and Security. Joe was an avid animal lover and enjoyed country/western dancing. A friend to all, Joe was well-known in the community and loved by so many people. He always had a story to share and was willing to help anyone who was in need. He will be greatly missed. Joe is survived by his special friend and companion, Lea Kobe, of Wichita; son, Joseph Vincent Powell (Dayna) of Cape Girardeau, MO; daughters, Michi Henning of Wichita, Jennifer Hammond (John) of Atlanta, GA and Athena “Teena” Shouse (David) of Leawood, KS; sisters, Alice Ebel of Hutchinson, KS and Dody Cowelti, of Okoboji, IA; grandchildren, Jeannette, Josey, Eliana and Heather. A family memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with the Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside, Wichita, KS, 67219 in the name of Joseph Powell and Rascal. Downing Lahey Mortuary East. A memorial service will be held at a later date
