Slomski, Father Joseph Peter, 90, passed away on April 22, 2016. Vigil/Rosary is 7:00 pm, Tuesday, April 26, 2016 and Mass of Christian Burial is 10:00 am, Wednesday, April 27, 2016, both at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Father Slomski was born in New Britain, CT on December 18, 1925 and later ordained in Wichita, KS on February 28, 1953 at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception. He celebrated his first mass in New Britain at Sacred Heart Church in 1953 and served many parishes in Kansas. He was honored for 60 years of service to the church by Bishop Michael O. Jackels at a celebratory mass on February 25, 2013 in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. In 2003, Father Slomski made a pilgrimage to Poland in honor of St. Faustina Kowalska for his answered prayers that his sister, Florence, recover from cancer. He enjoyed his trips "back home" to CT for family reunions. As an avid baseball fan, Father Slomski kept his fellow retired priests up to date with scores and statistics. He was always up for a game of Set-Back or Chess. Preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Stanislawa Slomski; sister, Albina Matushak; brother, Henry Slomski. Survived by sister, Florence Janeczko of Farmington, CT; a nephew; nieces; cousins; and many friends and parishioners in CT and KS. Florence and family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers and administrators at the Catholic Care Center.
