Francis, Josephine, 79, died Monday, March 6, 2006. Rosary 7:30 P.M., Wednesday, March 8, Downing Lahey Mortuary East. Service 11:00 A.M., Thursday, March 9, Church of the Resurrection. Interment 3:00 P.M., Thursday, St. Mary Cemetery, Hartford, KS. Josephine was born October 19, 1926 in Emporia, KS to Frank and Christina (Beschka) Hurtig. She married Joseph W. Francis in 1949, who died in 1999. Josephine graduated from the University of Kansas William Allen White School of Journalism in 1948. She worked for several newspapers. Josephine taught piano and organ lessons for 40 years, and was a church organist for nearly 70 years. She was mentally and physically active and a loving mother to the end of her life. Josephine is survived by her son, Anthony of Wichita, brother, Tony Hurtig and sister, Geraldine Gilbert, both of Hartford, KS and brother, Francis Hurtig of Tuscon, AZ; many nieces and nephews.
