Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Will G. Price, Jr. and her daughter, Susan Price Howerter. Joyce was born in Catlin, IL on February 2, 1916 to Nell McMahon and Homer Tilton. She graduated from Wichita High School East in 1933 and then attended Wichita University, where she graduated in 1937 as one of four honor women and was president of her sorority, Sorosis. Joyce married Will G. Price, Jr. on June 18, 1938. Along with her family and friends, the heart of Joyces life was her volunteerism, which spanned over 50 years. Joyce began her hospital volunteer work in 1940, when she and several friends began making rounds with a hospital cart, delivering books and magazines to patients at Wesley Hospital. She later became active in the Red Cross with a variety of projects, including home visitations, the Bloodmobile and the Disaster Unit. She was active with the Cancer Society, driving patients to appointments and also teaching the benefits of breast cancer awareness. She volunteered for six years at the Veterans Administration Hospital. Joyce found her most gratifying experiences when, as a Red Cross volunteer, she became a hostess in the Family Surgical Waiting Room. For many years, she spent one or two days each week monitoring surgical patients while providing support and assistance to patient families. Joyce joined the Junior League in 1943 and, as a result of her remarkable lifelong contribution to the community, was selected as the 1994 Junior League Sustainer of the Year. A memorial has been established with the American Red Cross, 707 N. Main, Wichita, KS, 67203.
