Judy Kay (Brownell) Mullen peacefully passed away on December 21, 2020. Judy was born August 20, 1949 in Sidney, NE to Dale and Rhea (Johnson) Brownell. After graduating high school, Judy went to work for General Dynamics. There she met Jim Mullen, he was immediately smitten. They had their first date July 9, 1968, got engaged 18 days later, and on May 24, 1969, Judy married James Robert Mullen and they remained married for 51 years. Judy loved their story and told it often. Judy is survived by her loving husband, Jim; her children, Coleen (Robin) Jennison of Wichita, KS, Brian (Sarah) Mullen of Grayslake, IL, and Daniel (Sarah) Mullen of Worthington, OH; grandchildren, Abby, Sean, Kate, Dean, and Bo; sisters, Jan (Robert) Joyce of Loudon, TN, Jeri (Tim) McKee of Lima, NY; sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Robert) Cohoon of Naperville, IL; brother-in-law, William (Crystal) Mullen of Virginia Beach, VA; and all of her nieces and nephews. Judy loved her family fiercely, appreciated the beauty of a flower garden, and did not know a stranger. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived - that is to have succeeded.” Well done, Judy, rest in peace. Rosary will be at 1:30 pm, Funeral Mass will be at 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 2, 2021, both at Church of the Magdalen Catholic Church, 12626 E. 21st St. N., Wichita, KS. Inurnment and a celebration of life will be planned for late spring of 2021 in Naperville, IL. For those in attendance, social distancing and masks will be required. The mass will be live streamed through Magdalen’s YouTube page. Memorials may be made to the Via Christi Foundation in honor of the team of angels that cared for Judy at St. Francis. 1. “Let me tell you somethin’; you guys are the most wonderful parents!”… Well Judes, it must take one to know one & we sure have missed your heartfelt words of encouragement at least a thousand times in the few short days that you’ve been gone…. Speaking of missing things — your many stories, mouthwatering tacos, warm hugs, lipstick cheek smackers, & just simply you. Thank you for being part of our family & loving us so generously & selflessly like your very own. We’ve been blessed by our time with you & miss you immensely. Merry Christmas, dear Judes; you made it just in time for the Heavenly celebration… No doubt Jesus is sporting a fresh pink wink smooch on His cheek. 😉 Heaven’s gain for sure. We love you so! — Ryan, Sonya, Ike, & Ellabelle Jennison

  2. It’s been a long time since your Mom or us lived in Dallas. We remember her always as loving, outgoing person whose smile filled a room with sunshine. She was one of those rare jewels of life…difficult to find and impossible to replace. May happy memories carry you through this sorrowful time! C. Patrick and Georgiana Carr Former neighbors from Lovington Drive

  3. The world just got a little dimmer without the spice and sass of this special lady. Judy will live on, in so many hearts, and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of being worthy of her friendship. Judy & Gare
