Kathleen Linda Smothers

Kathleen Linda Smothers, 74, loving wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away Friday, April 22, 2022. Memorial Service will be at 1:00 pm Friday, May 13th, at Downing & Lahey West Mortuary. Kathleen was a selfless caregiver to all those who knew her. Her fondest memories growing up were of spending time at her grandparents’ house and lake-house in upstate New York and growing up in Fort Worth, Texas. Her life was not complete until she moved to Wichita with her family as a young teen and met her husband and best friend, Ron Smothers, whom she married on February 25, 1968. They were married for 54 years and had a beautiful life taking many return trips to her favorite vacation spots, Eureka Springs and Branson with their two daughters, and later with their grandchildren. Ron was by her side caring for her until the very end and looks forward to the day they will meet again. Preceded in death by her parents, Roland W. Young Sr. and mother, Doris M. Young. Survived by her husband, Ron Smothers of Wichita, KS; daughters, Laurie (Shane) Atwood of Wichita, KS, Jenny (Jeremy) Simmons of Goddard, KS; granddaughters, Ashley Smith-Ahlman of Wichita, KS, Abigail Simmons of Goddard, KS, Audrey Ahlman of Wichita, KS, Rachel Simmons of Goddard, KS; grandson, Mark Ahlman of Wichita, KS; great-granddaughter, Zoey Lies of Wichita, KS; brothers, Roland W. (Cecilia) Young Jr. of Whitewater, KS, Randall M. (Debra) Young of Kechi, KS. Downing & Lahey Mortuary - West Chapel.
Kathy was always a sweet young woman from the first time I met her. I am very sorry for her passing and the family’s loss of this beautiful human being. May God comfort you each day. Shirley Cook
