Kenneth Parker Brasted II, 86, former president of Mid Kansas Federal Savings & Loan, died Saturday May 7, 2022. A private service for the family was held.
Ken was born August 15, 1935 in Wichita, KS to Kenneth P. and Lulu (Humphrey) Brasted. His first birthday celebration was held at the family cabin in Colorado. He graduated from Wichita High School East in 1953. He earned a bachelor’s of economics from Dartmouth College (Go Big Green!) in 1957. After college, Ken proudly served in the US Army in the 1st Cavalry Division in Korea on the 38th parallel as 1st Lieutenant from 1958-1959. After returning from Korea, he attended The Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania, where he earned his MBA in 1962.
Ken met his adored wife, Sherrie, at Starkist Tuna on Terminal Island, CA, where they both worked. They were married in Pasadena, CA in 1963, and enjoyed almost 59 years of a wonderful marriage.
Ken and Sherrie moved to Wichita, where he became the Executive Vice President of Mid Kansas Federal Savings & Loan, which was founded by his grandfather. He worked alongside his two brothers, David and Skip. He served as bank president until 1990. He went on to become a financial planner, and worked for First Securities, Morgan Stanley, Wachovia, and UBS. He retired in 2009.
Ken was involved in numerous community organizations and philanthropic associations throughout his life. He served as the chairman of the Wichita Area Chamber of Commerce in 1979, and as the chairman of the Kansas Chamber of Commerce in 1981. He co- founded the Wagon Masters, and served as its chairman from 1969-1977. He also served as chairman of KPTS Channel 8 from 1969-1971.
Ken enjoyed traveling with Sherrie to many countries and sunny locales, particularly Palm Springs and Hawaii. He was an avid golfer…THREE hole-in-ones! Also played tennis and loved to snow ski and scuba dive. He was a lifelong jazz music fan.
Ken was an extremely kind and generous man and was devoted to his family. Sherrie was the love of his life, and always his number one priority. He will be deeply missed.

Sherrie and family, My husband knew Ken through savings and loans over the years and later he was our financial advisor while at Wells Fargo. We were sorry to hear he passed away. Cecilia who worked for him many years was told he had passed away and her employer told us while visiting us at home this Wednesday. Please accept our condolences for you, his brothers and adult children and their children. A fine gentleman has left our midst. Sincerely, Carol and Gordon Jones
Always looked up to Ken – such a fine guy. He was very kind and supportive of me when I was young and just getting started in real estate. Best to you Sherrie and family – life transitions are difficult but we’ll all end up in the same place soon.
Ken was my college roommate and Best Man at my wedding. He was a great friend. He also introduced me to Scotch whiskey (Johnny Walker Black Label). He called me every year around Christmas. He was a kind person and always reached out to others. I will miss him. David Tyree

Sherrie, so sorry to read about Ken’s passing….a fellow Dartmouth alum like Dick. I haven’t seen Ken or you in years but I have fond memories of him and you. He was a gem, always friendly, warm in personality and interesting to visit about all things. Thinking of you…. Warmly, Suzie and Dick Ahlstrand
I have many fond memories of Ken and the entire family from the Brown and Brasted’s cabin in Colorado. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Suzann
