Kenneth W. Hoop age 69, of Wichita, KS, joined his loved ones in Heaven on Monday, May 16, 2016. He was born in Winfield, KS, October 21, 1946 to Joe and Peggy Lemmon Hoop of Oxford, KS. Kenny spent his early years in the oil patches of Kansas. His gift of basketball lifted him and his team to a State Championship at Russell High School in 1962 and 1963. He was recruited to play ball at Pratt County Community College, and went on to Wichita State University where he graduated with a Degree in Education and History, and a Masters in Education. He pursued his love of education and basketball with his wife Candy, and daughter Stephie in his wifes hometown of Pratt, KS as a teacher and a coach. Ken was President of the Pratt Jaycees, and later the Director of the Miss Kansas Pageant. He continued to support young people through his daughter and friends. He was active in all of their sports, academics, music, and theatre activities at Wichita Southeast High School. In his spare time he loved golf, playing cards, and drinking Scotch with friends. Ken spent 37 years as an Oil and Gas Lease Broker with J. Fred Hambright. Ken is survived by his wife, Candy; daughter, Stephanie Hoop Callihan, and husband, John; his two grandchildren, Kate and Mitch of Austin, TX; and his in love, adopted children, Kris Porter Sunderland (Mark) of San Diego, CA, and David Wachter (Kirk) of Brooklyn, NY; his brother, Steve Hoop of Russell, KS, and sister, Susan Rohling, of Winfield, KS, along with many nieces and nephews. Kenny and Candy, would have celebrated 50 years of marriage in July of this year. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2016 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary, Wichita, KS. Services will be held on Friday, May 20, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, Wichita, KS. There will be a celebration of life immediately following at Terradyne Country Club. Graveside services on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Pratt, KS at 11:00 A.M. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association, 608 W. Douglas Ave., S-100, Wichita, KS; and the American Heart Association, 1861 N. Rock Rd., S-380, Wichita, KS 67206.
