Kirk R. Holzmeister, 67, passed peacefully on Wednesday, June 8, 2022. Kirk was born on January 20, 1955 in Topeka, KS. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Robert and Mary Lee Holzmeister. At the age of 16 he received Boy Scout’s highest honor, the Eagle Scout Award. He was later honored with an “Outstanding Young Man of America” award by the Jr. Chamber of Commerce. Kirk graduated from Topeka West High School, and Washburn University with a major in Political Science and a minor in Communications. In 1982 he joined the Jim Slattery for Congress campaign and from 1983-1984 he worked for the Mondale for President campaign. In 1988 Kirk married Alicia, they moved to Wichita, KS. Kirk worked for Wichita Federal Savings, later Bank of America and retired from the State of Kansas. For 33 years Kirk and Alicia rescued dogs, a total of 25. Some old, some abused, some relinquished, some abandoned, some in need of health care, but all wonderful. As a home cook with an epicurean streak, the Holzmeisters opened their home to friends and family for large and festive Thanksgiving feasts for several decades. Kirk bled Kansas University crimson and blue from a child; he was elated with their recent National Championship. Travel was also something Kirk and Alicia appreciated, traveling to numerous historic sites and National Parks. The Kansas City Chiefs also held a privileged place in his life, and he was pleased with their Super Bowl win in 2020. Kirk has the best family; his cousins especially have been steadfast. Whether from CA, MO, CO, FL, MX, TX, or Australia, they have championed his resolution to fight. Memorial Service will be at 10:00 am, Friday, July 8, 2022, at East Heights United Methodist Church, Wichita, KS. The service will be streamed through the church’s Facebook page.
