LaDora Marie Stoppel Meier, 88, of Wichita, Kansas, died at Oxford Grand Assisted Living Hathaway Memory Care Unit in Wichita under the care of Good Shepherd Hospice on February 8, 2025. LaDora was born on a farm in Bunker Hill, Kansas on December 8, 1936. She is preceded in death by her parents Emelia Heinze Stoppel and Edward Earnest Stoppel, her husband of 66 years Glenn Everett Meier, her brothers, Junior Dale Stoppel, Bennie Dean Stoppel, and Gerald Wayne Stoppel.
LaDora graduated from Dorrance High School in 1954. LaDora married Glenn Meier in 1955 and remained married until his death in 2021. Her husband’s job located him to Lindsay and Oklahoma City OK, Great Bend and Wichita, KS until they moved to Wichita after his retirement in 1988.
LaDora was accomplished in oil and watercolor painting. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, needlepoint and entertaining.
She loved to play cards. Pitch or Pinnacle in her younger days. Of Late, Uno was a favorite and she did not play favorites. She always saved the bad cards for that last final punch!
LaDora loved to sing. She sang for many years in the church choir. Even in her last days, she took comfort in traditional hymns playing in the background, singing along. Even with Dementia, she never forgot the lyrics to all her favorites.
During Basketball season, she would never miss a KU game. Even had a Christmas tree devoted only to KU.
LaDora loved God and family and babies! Christmas and Easter were her favorite holidays. Her Christmas tree was adorned with framed baby pictures and collectible Hallmark ornaments. It made her so happy when all the family came together. LaDora adored and supported all her grandchildren and all of their activities.
She had a vast collection of Beenie Babies. She was often referred to as “Sis”. Her favorite color was Red.
Can picture her scooting around town in her stick shift little red Ford Ranger, hitting all the local garage sales on Thursdays, providing meals for families of the church, or shopping.
LaDora is survived by her three children, Randall Meier (Janet McCart-Meier), Timothy Meier (Nancy) and Cindy Crawford; grandchildren, Eva Meier Tinkey (Steven), Danny Meier, Carl Meier (Katarina), Rebekah Meier Snyder (Nick), Kristen Crawford, Sarah Midare (Michelle), Erik Crawford, Ian Crawford; great-grandchildren, Anna, Valentina, Aidan, Lilly, Azadi. LaDora was very proud of her German descent, the granddaughter of immigrants from near the Volga River in Russia, who became longtime farmers in Russell County.
She was baptized in the Lutheran Church and was an active member for many years at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
LaDora enjoyed being a homemaker and traveling. She worked with Robert “Bob” Dole of Russell.
LaDora and Glen traveled with friends and family to many places, cruised the Caribbean and Alaska, wintered in Mexico, toured Russia, Germany and Italy. They went on a month-long African safari. In addition to overseas travel, they toured the US and Canada extensively.

My mom (Arlene Bunker White) always enjoyed getting together with her classmates–I think this was at their 60th reunion–I love remembering them this way–they were having so much fun. So sorry for your loss.
