Larry Dean Arnold Ream

Ream, Larry Dean Arnold, died Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute, Kansas. He was 83 years of age. Larry was born on a farm 2 miles north of Turon, Kansas, May 1, 1931, the third son of Arnold Theodore “Tuffy” Ream and Rosalba Madge “Sally” Sims Ream. He married Patricia Janet Parsons on July 3, 1955 in Halstead, Kansas. He is survived by two sons, Michael Dale Ream and wife, Wini, of Sulphur Springs, TX, and Steven Patrick Ream of Wichita; three granddaughters, Michelle Frederickson of Denton, TX, Laura Beth Ream and Melissa Taylor Ream of Sulphur Springs, TX, and two great-grandchildren, Adam Parker and Bailey Nicole Frederickson. Larry was preceded in death by his afore mentioned parents and wife; two brothers, Bobbie Ream and Dale Ream. Larry was a career home improvements salesman in Wichita: first at Sam The Window Man, then owner of Cli-Matic Inc., over two decades at All Weather Products, Inc., and finally owner of Cool Temp Awning Siding Company. His great pleasure was involved with baseball, first as a youth star in Turon. “Lean Larry Ream” also played for the Pratt Bee-Jays semi-pro team and was invited to professional spring training in Florida for the Pittsburgh Pirates and the New York Giants where he was coached by Hall of Famers, Mel Ott and Carl Hubbell. He coached both of his sons in summer league baseball. He was also one heck of a Snooker player! Larry was a mail corporal in the United States Army, serving from 1950-52, stationed at Ft. Riley and honorably discharged from Ft. Leonard Wood. He was a member of the Catholic faith. A Rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, August 5; Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 6, both at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church where Larry was a charter member. Graveside service, 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Halstead City Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Downing and Lahey Mortuary West in Wichita.
