Larry Leroy Selby was born March 5, 1942, in Emporia, KS. He passed away Thursday, November 9, 2023, after a brief illness. Larry grew up and went to school in Emporia. He attended Emporia State but finished his degree at Wichita State in 1967 with a bachelor’s in general studies. Larry married Barbara Alexander on August 24, 1963, in Emporia. They just recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a family party. They moved to Wichita in 1964 and he began working at Rorabaugh-Milsap Photography as a photographer mainly shooting portraits and weddings. Larry always said that he’d been in every church in Wichita. He formed a partnership called Color Central, which was a professional photo finishing lab, and he ran that small business for over 35 years. Most recently Larry worked at Douglas Photographic Imaging. Larry’s passion was restoring antique cars, mainly Fords. He would build them from frame to finish. He loved going to car shows and events, especially with his sons, who now share his love of old cars. Larry was an active member of the Early Ford V-8 Club and he and Barbara went on many fun trips with the club and made long lasting friendships. He was also a member of the S.E. Optimist Club. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Alice Selby, and his son, Darin. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons, Derick (Terri) Selby, Jason (Traci) Selby; grandchildren, David (Erin) Janke, Chase (Kristen) Selby, Nathan, and Jillian Virgin; 4 great-grandchildren. Memorial service will be November 16th at 2:00. Visitation will start at 1:00 at Downing & Lahey West Mortuary. In lieu of flowers memorials can be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105 or Susan G.
