Lawrence "Larry" Ignatius Oeding, age 76, passed away January 3, 2025. Larry was born in Garden City, Kansas on October 9, 1948, the sixth child of I.J. and Bernice Oeding. He and his nine siblings had many adventures growing up together on the family farm. A chance meeting through friends led Larry to be introduced to Pamela (Pam) Crow in 1967. They took an instant liking to one another and the initial spark soon turned to thoughts of love and marriage, resulting in an engagement by the end of that year. This led to a 56-year union that began on December 28, 1968. Larry was a devoted husband, a doting father to his three daughters, and a proud grandfather of five grandchildren. Larry earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Business Management from Wichita State University in 1970. He earned his CPA certification in 1972 and began a long and varied career of accounting and financial management, starting as an accountant at Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co. Larry’s financial acumen and staunch ethical standards afforded him the opportunity to work for Carney Enterprises, managing Pizza Hut founder Frank Carney’s personal investments. This position put Larry amid a group of talented local businessmen and paved the way for his involvement in auto dealerships, movie theaters, restaurants, real estate, and various well-known Wichita entities, including the Wichita Wings and Check Center. In addition, Larry started Oeding Financial Management in 1986, sharing his financial skills for over 39 years, working with various individuals and companies, most recently Legasus Group, LC. Larry’s top priorities in life were his relationship with God and his family. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church for over 50 years, offering his financial skills in service to the parish, as well as his legendary generosity. His compassionate heart led him to offer free tax services through the United Way, and to spend many hours helping people with special needs. Larry’s outstanding skills as a volunteer for the ARC of Sedgwick County (AbilityPoint) did not go unnoticed, earning him Volunteer of the Year in 1983. He was an intelligent, hard-working, and incredibly optimistic man who never gave up no matter how many challenges came his way. His gentle and resilient spirit will be greatly missed, most especially by Pam and his girls, who are comforted by the knowledge of Larry’s heavenly reunion with his beloved daughter, Molly. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, James Oeding; sisters, Lois Oeding and Connie Reneau; and daughter, Molly Ann Oeding. Larry is survived by his wife, Pam; his daughters, Amy (Brian) McEachern, Emily (Douglas) Rex; grandchildren, Carson McEachern, Chloe McEachern, Colin McEachern, Kailey Rex, Kinley Rex; and siblings, Betty Jean (Maynard) Alley, Bernard (Suzanne) Oeding, Judith (Gerald) Leonard, Ed (Sandi) Oeding, Richard (Barbara) Oeding, Ken (Frances) Oeding; and a large extended family. Rosary will be at 10:00 a.m., Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., with a luncheon to follow on Thursday January 9, 2025, all at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 2007 N. Arkansas Avenue, Wichita, KS 67203. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. So many great memories of Uncle Larry and his girls, my cousins growing up. So very sorry for your loss. Hugs from Arizona.

  2. Dear Oeding Family:

I am saddened to hear of Larry’s passing. I knew him through the Wichita Wings, when I worked as Roy & Kim’s admin assistant in the 1990’s. He was always so kind, and he did a lot for the organization. I have always thought highly of him. I would always see him and Molly in the south tunnel outside the locker rooms after the games at the Kansas Coliseum.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time. May God grant you peace in your hearts, knowing that Larry is with him now, and has been reunited with his beautiful, sweet Molly.
