Leah Rae Wickham left the loving presence of her family and friends on December 6, 2022 to live eternally with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Leah was born on January 1, 1937 in Wichita Kansas to Daniel and Eva Schuster. She graduated from East High School in 1954 and later attended Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri and Wichita State University. Leah married her high school sweetheart, Gary Wickham on June 2, 1956 and together they celebrated 66 years of marriage this year. An accomplished vocalist for many years, Leah ministered from an early age by singing with her brother Norman on their church's Sunday morning program on radio station KFH. She continued her vocal ministry by singing in her church choir and performing solos. She taught Sunday school and children’s church and led camp ministries along with women’s Bible studies. She also worked alongside her husband Gary during his many years of Bible teaching. Leah worked part time at the family business and was instrumental in starting a Christian school where she later performed volunteer work. But she is most remembered by her family as one who listened well, was a tremendous encourager and one who tirelessly prayed for those she loved. Those who loved her dearly include her husband, Gary, their three children and families, sons Greg (Kay), David (Jody) Wickham of Wichita, daughter Michelle (Dr. James) Ruhlmann of Hutchinson, and eight grandchildren who were the light of her life: Joel, Andrew (Leah), and Brett (Ashley) Wickham, Cari (Wes) Smothermon, Rachel (Ian) Burris, Michaela, Joshua (Ashlyn) and Abigail Ruhlmann, as well as 12 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Norman (Helga) Schuster as well as many other family members and friends. A memorial has been established with Voice of the Martyrs . Viewing will be from 2:00 - 5:00 pm, Sunday, December 11, 2022, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. Private Family Graveside Service will take place.
