LeRoy Graber

leroy graber
LeRoy Graber, 95, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 26, 2020. He was preceded by his parents; four brothers; daughter, Nancy, and daughter-in-law, Monica Graber. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Leona; children, Keith Graber and Karen (Greg) Rupp; grandchildren, Jennifer Baig, Ryan (Samantha) Cheatum, Carl (KayCee); great-grandchildren, Jocelyn, Logan and Wyatt; sister, Virginia Murray. LeRoy was born March 2, 1924, in Pretty Prairie, Kansas, to Henry P. Graber and Elizabeth Graber. He grew up on the family farm just east of town with his four brothers, Leonard, Wilbur, Marvin, Robert, and one sister, Virginia. At age four, he lost his birth mother, and was later raised by his stepmother, Elizabeth (Janzen). He graduated from Pretty Prairie High School in 1942, and began working in the dairy industry driving for Ark Valley Co-op. On June 7, 1949, he married Leona Schrag at the 1st Mennonite Church in Pretty Prairie. Shortly thereafter they opened the local S&G (Schrag & Graber) Grocery Store. In 1957, they sold the store and moved to McPherson to raise their family and begin LeRoy’s 34-year career working for Dillons. His family could go on and on about his accomplishments in life, but his true essence was not based on what job, title or position he held, but that his life was founded on giving. His presence was always unassuming, his patient and humble approach to life provided a calming assurance to his family and those who knew him. Never judging or criticizing, unselfish almost to a fault, he lived life with a quiet strength and knowing smile. In his company you felt loved, safe and secure, and that is a gift his family will cherish and embrace forevermore. Service, 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 31 at 1st Mennonite Church in Pretty Prairie. Memorials to Good Shepherd Hospice, 7829 E. Rockhill St, Suite 403, Wichita, KS 67206. Downing & Lahey Mortuary West.

  1. We were sad to hear of LeRoy’s passing and pass on our heart felt condolences to Leona and family. LeRoy and Leona were like another set of parents helping raise all us McPherson kids, friends of Keith, and keeping us in line! I hope your loss is eased with all the happy memories of LeRoy’s long and fruitful life.
