Lorraine M.Rau, 99, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2013 at the Chestnut House in Newark, Ohio. Rosary, 7 p.m., Friday, August 16, Downing Lahey Mortuary West. Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., Saturday, August 17, St. Mary of Aleppo Catholic Church with Fr. Colin Boor as celebrant. Interment will follow in the St. Mary Cemetery. Lorraine was born in Garden Plain, Kansas on November 6, 1913 to the late William and Anna (Kampling) Rau. She was an RN and served as a Navy nurse during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Following, she spent many years as a private duty nurse and eventually retired from Marin General Hospital in San Rafael, California. The last of her immediate family, Lorraine was preceded in death by her seven siblings and their spouses, Mary and Clifford Shea, Albert and Eleanor Rau, Eleanor and Ted Scheer, Rose Mary and Ray Peers, Roman and Theresa Rau, Josephine Gutschenritter, and Lewis and Ellen Rau. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. The family requests memorials be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202.
