Lucille A. Thurow

Lucille A. Thurow, lived a full 101 years before going home to heaven on Saturday, June 25, 2016. Visitation with Lucilles Family will be from 5:00 7:00 P.M., Friday, July 1, 2016, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, July 2, 2016, at Central Christian Church. Lucille, daughter of Charles and Lula Darling, was born on February 7, 1915 in Pawnee County, KS. She graduated from Macksville High School and married her high school sweetheart, Oliver, in 1934. They had two daughters, Glenda and Cheryl. Lucille was a hard worker. She held a variety of jobs in her lifetime. She retired from the City of Wichita in 1977. Retirement didnt suit Lucille and so she went to work as an insurance clerk for Dr. Ronald Davis, DDS. Lucille held that job for 29 years retiring again at the age of 93. In 2005, at the age of 90, Lucille was recognized as the oldest worker in the state of Kansas by the Kansas Department of Aging. She was honored at a ceremony in Topeka. She continued to work until her eyesight began to fail. Lucille cherished her independence and loved to drive her own car, which she did until the age of 93. At the time of her death, Lucille was still living alone and taking care of most of her needs by herself. Lucille was a member of Central Christian Church for 44 years. She loved her Shockers and was very pleased to receive a birthday greeting from the team on her 100th birthday. Preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Oliver; and her brothers, Howard and Lyle. Lucille is survived by her daughters, Glenda (Fred) Moats, Cheryl (John) Yasbec; granddaughters, Kelly Hanshew, Laura McLemore, Julia Yasbec Hawn; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by many. A memorial has been established with His Helping Hands c/o Central Christian Church, 2900 N. Rock Rd., Wichita, KS 67226.
