Lucille “Lucy” Enix
Born in Drummond, Oklahoma, January 17, 1933, Lucy passed away March 21, 2020 in Wichita, Kansas.
Lucille Enix started her journalism career in news organizations, and later formed her own editorial business. There she worked with book and magazine publishers as a management consultant and editor, and with writers to help them shape a creative work into publishable form.
She holds a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University, and a bachelor’s degree in Science from Oklahoma State University. She worked as a features writer for the Chicago Tribune, as a reporter for a Washington news service, as Features Section Editor for the Dallas Morning News where she developed a new format, and created the concept, format and editorial direction for the weekly Entertainment Guide. In addition, she served as editor of Vision, a Southwest Literary Magazine published by Dallas Public Broadcast Station KERA, Dallas Magazine, and taught at Southern Methodist University.
Ms. Enix formed her own editorial consulting business upon retirement from the news business and worked with clients in Europe, Central America, Mexico and the United States for over twenty years. She co-authored, with Dr. Joe Davis, the book The Ultrafit Diet, released in 1990 by New American Library, New York and for which she and Dr. Davis received a $35,000 advance. Signet released the paperback edition, Ultrafit, in the Spring of 1991. She co-authored, with Nancy Reily, Joseph Imhof Artist of the Pueblos: A Biography, published by Sunstone Press September 1998.
Medical Straight Talk, a monthly newsletter published in San Antonio, Dallas Opera Magazine, and Texas Business are among the magazines with which she has worked as an editorial consultant.
She traveled extensively throughout the continents of Africa, South America, Asia, and Europe. After he second retirement, she became a long-distance cyclist, biking 50-100 miles per day on bicycle tours.
Journalistic honors include: The Southwest Journalism Forum Award for professional excellence, presented by the Dallas Press Club and Southern Methodist University; two Dallas Press Club Katy Awards for Best General Interest Magazine; Texas Medical Association for excellence in communication; Women in Communication Award for outstanding journalistic contribution; Art Direction Magazine’s Creativity Distinction Award.
Ms. Enix is survived by Victoria Fash of Newport Beach, CA, William Fash of Boston, MA, Byron (Carol) Enix of Valley Center, KS.
