Lynda A. Connell, 85, of Wichita, died Sunday morning, June 29, 2025, at Larksfield Place Retirement Center from complication of Parkinson’s Disease. Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, July 5, 2025, at First United Methodist Church – Broadway, Wichita, KS.

Lynda Anne Igel was born November 21, 1939, in Minneapolis, KS to Carl and Ruth Igel. She attended grade school in Ottawa and Garnett, KS and Broken Arrow, OK. She graduated from Ottawa High School and McPherson College.

While attending McPherson College, she met her husband, Harold L. Connell from Brooklyn, IA. They were married on June 2, 1959, in Ottawa, KS. A son, Todd, was born to the couple in 1963.

Lynda graduated from McPherson College with a degree in teaching. She taught elementary classes in Buhler, Salina and Wichita Public Schools before teaching at Wichita Collegiate School from which she retired.

Her hobbies included reading. She also volunteered for many years with the Mid-West Kansas chapter of the American Red Cross’s Disaster Services which took her to various states and colonies of the U.S. She and her husband also spent a year with the Church of the Brethren’s Brethren Volunteer Service program. Part of the year was in Falfurrias, TX teaching English and Spanish speaking children in a preschool and then as a nurse’s aide in The Cedars, a retirement home in McPherson.

Lynda was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wichita.

She is survived by her husband, Harold; son, Todd (Lori) Connell. In addition are two granddaughters, Melissa Connell of Andover, and Amanda Connell of Richmond, IN.; step-grandchildren, Clint (Samantha) Cooper of Maize, and Kristi (Matt) Jacobs of Andover; five step-great-grandchildren.

Lynda was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Ruth Igel; her brother, Richard Igel; and sister, JoRuth Igel.

A memorial has been established with: First United Methodist Church, 330 North Broadway Street, Wichita, KS 67202.

Services in care of Downing & Lahey Mortuary – East Chapel.
