Mabel Marie Parsons
June 14, 1929 ~ October 4, 2015
Mabel Marie Parsons was born in Fort Scott, Kansas on June 14, 1929 to Joseph and Florence (“Flossie”) Friend. She spent her early years in Fort Scott. She had 9 stepbrothers and stepsisters. She was a free spirited young lady. She wanted to work at the Southwestern Bell Company, but she was only 16. However, one had to be 18 years old to work there. She was able to persuade them that she was 18 and she continued to work there in Fort Scott and Wichita until her retirement in 1981 with a perfect attendance record. She was living in an apartment in Fort Scott. One day she happened to look out her apartment window and saw a very dapper young man standing on the sidewalk. She commented to herself “thats the man Im going to marry”. William Parsons returned from the Army and and they were married on June 1, 1951. About one month later she and William moved to Wichita where he was employed by Beech aircraft. Marie continued to work at Southwestern Bell/ATT faithfully until her retirement. She was a member of Rose Hill Bible Church until health problems prevented her from attending. The Lord blessed her with 2 wonderful children. Her son Wade (Cathy) Parsons and daughter Rebecca (Keith) Trevolt. 5 grandchildren, Christopher Parsons, Michael (Marina) Parsons, Rachel (Eddie) Peay, Amy (Josh) Morrison and Keith Trevolt III. 3 great-grandchildren, Kaden, Darian and Jordan Peay. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Parsons. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday October 7, 2015 at 1 PM at Downing Lahey East Mortuary, Wichita, Kansas. Interment will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta, Kansas following the service. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. - 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7 at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the Rose Hill Bible Church, 1410 N. Main, Rose Hill, KS 67133.
