Mada Madell Brock

Brock, Mada Madell, 94, passed away September 17, 2014 at Chaucer Estates. Madell was born near Ellis, KS on December 1, 1919. She attended area schools and graduated from Fort Hays State University with an Associates Degree in Education and a teaching certificate. She taught in one room country schools and worked at the Walker Naval Air Base during WWII. After the war, she married Jack Brock and together they raised four sons. On Jacks death, she went to work at St. Francis Hospital and continued her employment until retirement. She loved books and working the puzzles in the Wichita Eagle. Her retirement years were filled with the joy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Madell was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, and her son, Martin. She is survived by her sister, Bernadine Kuhn; sons, John Brock (Vivian), Robert Brock (Louise), Thomas Brock; grandchildren, Jack Brock (Shelby), Michelle Opheim (Chris), Robert Brock, Dennis Brock (Stephanie), William Brock, Elizabeth Brock, Thomas Brock Jr., Mary Piechocki (Greg), Heather Brock, and Julien Brock; and great-grandchildren, Hannah Brock, Taylor Brock, Frances Madell Opheim, Benjamin Brock, Joseph Brock, Jacklynn Brock, Ashlynn Brock, Katelynn Brock, Courtney Piechocki. A memorial has been established with Good Shepherd Hospice, 439 N. McLean Blvd., Wichita, KS 67203. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 4, 2014, at Downing Lahey Mortuary East. Inurnment will be in Hays, KS on Sunday October 5, 2014.
