Margaret Ann Blasi, 89, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 24, 2025, surrounded by family. Born and raised in Kansas, Margaret called Wichita home for her entire life. She was a proud descendant of Irish immigrants and always held a special place in her heart for St. Patrick’s Day and many an Irish ballad. Margaret grew up with a love for music, handmade treasures, faith, and family.
A talented seamstress her entire life, Margaret sewed for family and friends and even helped make her own wedding dress when she married the love of her life, James Blasi, in 1957. In her later years, her handmade towel creations, fashioned from potholders and tea towels, became a signature gift shared with many. Even while relaxing, she would crochet baby blankets for the grandbabies. Many of her daughters and granddaughters learned how to sew (& rip) their first dress or crochet their first potholder through her teaching. Margaret took great joy in passing on her knowledge to those around her and was always willing to share her time and talents with others.
Margaret was a woman of many hobbies, but she was especially known for her numerous ceramic pieces. Over the years, she created and hand-painted countless ceramic gifts for her children and grandchildren, including beautiful nativity sets, holiday figurines, and many more detailed pieces.
Selfless, kind, and endlessly generous, Margaret was a servant-hearted woman. Helping her church community was a special joy for her, which included taking Communion to the homebound or making vestments and altar cloths. A lifelong adorer of music, Margaret was also a member of the St. Francis of Assisi choir and loved to sing. Serving her family in whatever ways needed, she took on mending, painting rooms, home projects, canning, and even making dozens of loaves of her delicious banana bread for a grandson’s wedding reception.
In her later years, Margaret was a beloved member of the Dove Estates Assisted Living Community. An active resident, Margaret was sure to be involved in all available activities. She not only knew nearly every fellow resident by name, but could also tell you their stories and family histories. The Dove was the final place she called home, and she cherished all the relationships she created there.
Spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was her ultimate joy. Card games were a family tradition; and Margaret rarely passed up a game of rummy, pitch, or marbles. Every year, those she loved could count on a regular phone call of her singing Happy Birthday to them on their special day. She would routinely go out of her way to ensure her family felt loved, seen, and cared for. We will miss her greatly.
