Margaret brought joy and a delightful bright spirit to Lime Springs when the Metcalf family came to Iowa. We enjoyed many happy afternoons together with the Bridge Club. I particularly remember a shopping trip to Rochester where she purchased a painting for her red, black, and white color scheme for the living room; as I recall it had a Cardinal in his red regalia crossing an Italian courtyard scene. And I remember how we all laughed the night Lou spent the night at the bank when a burglar had tried to get in and in the morning discovered the sheets he had brought along were decorated with cartoon characters. She was talented, ingenious (when she couldn’t get a brown refrigerator to match her color scheme, she painted the white one), intelligent, and great fun. If ever someone is really a part of a town like Lime Springs, he or she is always a part of it. So we’ll be telling stories about the Metcalf family for years to come. My parents, James and Sydna Shoemaker, are buried at Pleasant Hill, close to Lou and Mike, and I always say a prayer when we visit. We were lucky to know Margaret. Love & sympathy to the family, Clarence and Donna (Shoemaker Wesseling) Ihns
