Margaret M. Leighton

Margaret M. Leighton 89, died Friday, January 8, 2016. Visitation with the family will be from 4:00 6:00 P.M., Sunday, January 10, 2016, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. Celebration of Life will be at 10:30 A.M., Monday, January 11, at College Hill United Methodist Church. Margaret was born in Beloit, KS on May 30, 1926 to Fred and Regina Hodler. She attended Country School and Beloit High School. After graduation from Kansas State University in 1950 with a degree in Home Economics, she worked for a short time as a Home Demonstration Extension Agent in Thomas County at Colby, KS before becoming a full-time homemaker. She was active with College Hill United Methodist Church, UMW, Home Economics Club, Knife and Fork Club, University Club, Kansas Orchid Society, and others. Preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Rex and Paul Hodler. Survived by her husband of 64 years, Cliff Leighton of Wichita; children, Trudy Jackel of Wichita, Cindy (Glenn) Lessenden of Platte City, MO, Greg (Linda) Leighton, Pat (Randy) Hancock, both of Wichita KS; sister, Berniece Kearns; sister in-law, Hope Leighton; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren. A memorial has been established with College Hill United Methodist Church, 2930 E. 1st St. N., Wichita, KS 67214. Downing & Lahey Mortuary East.
