Born on November 18, 1943, in Andale, Kansas, to Aloysius and Elizabeth Martin. She married her “Sweetie” and best friend, Stephen Mainz, on August 3, 1963. For fifty-eight years, whether she and Steve were hosting parties, making sausage, or tending to their vineyard, there was always action in the Mainz house. She served selflessly at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church as a part of the funeral dinner committee and could be found in the adoration chapel every Wednesday at 3:00 a.m. Margie was an unstoppable woman who seemed to make time for everything and everyone. Her family was blessed by a constant flow of homemade undies, surprise packages stuffed full of the oddest, yet surprisingly useful things, and homemade candies and cinnamon rolls with plenty of frosting. There was always time for one more game of cards or another glass of wine. She graduated from WSU in 1972 and practiced as a dental hygienist, showering her clients with her special Margie touch (recommending gum supporting perfect dental health). If you walked into the house, you could expect Margie to greet you with plenty of food (perhaps her famous sticky popcorn), card games, endless laughs, and a bottle of wine. Above all, she was a dedicated wife, loving mother to her sons and daughters-in-law, a loyal friend, the most treasured grandmother, and a joyful great-grandmother.
Margaret is survived by her children, Mitchell (Kim), Chris (Roslyn), and Marcus (Christee) Mainz; sister, Virginia (Leonard) Denk; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, and a host of loving family and friends.
Memorial donations may be made to Guadalupe Clinic, 940 S. St. Francis, Wichita, KS 67211.
