Margaret Rice

Rice, Margaret Shaft, died May 26, 2013 at age 104. She was born in Kansas City, MO to Jess Jorgan and Dagmar Ida (Oxholm) Jessen. She worked for Waddell Reed, Hutchinson for 20 years, retiring in 1970. She was a life member and past president of Soroptimist, International, a member of Reformation Lutheran Church, Wichita and long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church, Hutchinson. Married to Stanley Shaft on November 28, 1929. He died November 15, 1949. Married Dean A. Rice on October 20, 1995. He died October 7, 2008. She survived by two sons, David E. Shaft (Libby), of Summerfield, FL and John C. Shaft, of Wichita; one daughter, Joan Shaft McKinney (Wallace), of Hutchinson; step-daughter, Elinor Smith, of Scott City, KS; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Shaft, of Merriam, KS; stepson-son-in-law, Richard DeVore, of Wichita; sister-in-law, Betty L. Gilbert (Dee), of Newton, KS. She is preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Jearald J. Shaft and Donald L. Shaft; two step-daughters, Ginny DeVore, and Karen McNaughton; grandson, David McKinney. Funeral will be 1:30 P.M., Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Reformation Lutheran Church.
