Peggy, 92, passed peacefully on May 20, 2024. Born to John and Irene Ryan in Binghamton, NY on May 10, 1932, Peggy always put her family first. She is survived by her daughter, Denise Shepperd; son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Caren Pierson; and daughter, Michelle Pierson. Grandchildren: Melissa Bryan, Joe Bryan, Rebecca Dinsmore, Adam Pierson and Anya Hatfield. Great-grandchildren: Natalie, Gabe, Harvey and Harlow. Peggy was preceded in death by her son, Chris Pierson. Peggy was caring, strong, and independent. Those who knew her were comfortable confiding in her and asking for her advice. Her main role in life was caring for her two special needs children Chris and Michelle. She supported Chris as a Special Olympics athlete and independently cared for Michelle until late in life; she was their strongest advocate. Because of this they accomplished a lot. Peggy took pride in her work as a flight attendant for TWA and as the receptionist for her son, Chuck, at Wichita Family Dental until she retired. Peggy graduated from Missouri Western State College in 1976 with a degree in Social Work. Peggy was always up for an adventure and loved to travel. She told fond stories of her many trips; be it flying in Chuck’s plane to see relatives, going to the Macy’s Day parade in NYC, road tripping through Vegas to Disneyland in California with Denise and her kids, or visiting all the bakeries and shoe shops with her mom in her favorite city, Paris. She was a great cook, always insisting that everything needed butter and sugar. This is probably why her French pancakes and spaghetti were the best. A small service will be held to celebrate Peggy at 10am on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Downing & Lahey Mortuary East, 6555 E. Central Wichita, KS 7206. In lieu of flowers, we encourage donations to Special Olympics of Kansas, 5280 Foxridge Dr., Mission, KS 66202 and Starkey Foundation Inc., 4500 W. Maple, Wichita, KS 67209.

  1. To the memory of my favorite sister in law, Peggy . Your late brother, Bob, and I were your favorite. All of your siblings have gone before you, but I’m still here to claim the status as your favorite. After Bob passed away, you and I talked everyday for years until you were no longer able to and that I will miss forever. May God keep you close to His side and be sure to leave room for me in between Bob and you. I’m praying for your soul.

  2. I have missed Peggy a lot. She was the sweetest, friendliest neighbor to my husband and me, when we first moved in next door to her on Byron Ct. We moved in 5 years ago last December. She brought us the most gorgeous poinsettia I’ve ever had! We had the privilege of meeting dear Chris before he added away, and enjoy knowing Michelle.
Denise has been a wonderful neighbor too!!
