Aldrich, Marian G. (Smith), 97, left us to be in the nearer presence of God on Saturday, June 2, 2012. She was born October 10, 1914 in Schenectady, NY to Wayne and Lillian Smith. Marian graduated from Oneonta Normal School in 1934 and NYS College at Oneonta in 1960 with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education. She taught elementary grades in a one room school in Clifton Park, NY for four years and later taught in Schenectady Public Schools. During World War II, she was the civilian supervisor of Plant Protection at Schenectady Army Depot and Employee Counselor at the end of the war. She retired from Howe School in Schenectady in 1973. Marian was a former member of the Schenectady City and County Retired Teachers Association, Scotia Glenville Senior Center, Annie Schaffer Senior Center, Bell Brook Club (Hadley, NY), Mohawk Hudson Bicycle Club, and Bellevue Reformed Church. She enjoyed swimming, bicycling, skiing, ice skating, yoga, ballroom dancing, line dancing and gardening. Marians smile was an inspiration to all and she was surrounded by love from her family and friends. Preceded in death by parents; husband of 62 years, Arthur Aldrich; sister, Beatrice Paky. Survived by daughter, Jan Saul of Marietta, GA; son, Douglas (Joan) of Wichita, KS; grandson, Brett (Krystal) of Wichita; granddaughters, Michele of Hong Kong, Danielle of Dallas, TX; great-grandson, Kaden; great-granddaughter, Emma; nephew, Francis Stevens (Marilyn) of Lake George, NY, and niece, Phyllis Self (Charles) of Bellingham, WA. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, June 9 at Cornerstone Ridge Plaza, 3636 N. Ridge Road, Building 400 in Wichita. Arrangements by Downing Lahey West.

  1. John remembers Mr. & Mrs. Aldrich as wonderful neighbors on Guilderland Rd. Whenever we would see Mrs. A in a store or here at the Glenville Sr. Center she had a great smile and cheery hello for us. Our sympathies to you. Diane & John
