Marie Ann Sampson

Marie (Elcock) Sampson passed away October 13, 2015 in Wichita, Kansas at 90 years old. Marie was born in Enid, Oklahoma on November 4, 1924 to Charles and Irene Elcock. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill “Sammy” Sampson; parents, Charles and Irene; and sister, Aletha June Powell. She is survived by her son, David Sampson; daughter, Rebecca Wallace; grandchildren, Hilaire Sampson and Jason Sampson; three great-grandchildren, Jayden, Damon, and Larissa; and nieces, Peggy Johnson and Kate Bigges; many cousins, great-nieces and nephews, and treasured friends. Marie was a dedicated and talented musician, who touched the lives of many as an organist at a number of Wichita churches for many years. In fact, she worked with the Wichita State University Foundation to create the Marie Sampson Endowment Scholarship in Music to help support students in the keyboard program. Along with her husband, she faithfully volunteered for the American Red Cross and Wesley Medical Center over their lifetime together. Visitation with Maries family will be from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 20, 2015, at Downing Lahey East Mortuary. Her funeral services will be held at College Hill United Methodist on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. Burial at Maple Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor and celebrate Maries memory by contributing to the American Red Cross, 1900 E. Douglas Ave., Wichita, KS 67214, an organization she served throughout her life.
