Marilyn Roberts Walsh

July 23, 2019
Marilyn Roberts Walsh passed away on July 23, 2019. A memorial service will be held at Plymouth Congregational Church on Saturday, August 3 at 11 am.
She met Glenn, an air force officer, on a blind date in 1956 and they were married in June of 1957. Children came a year later in quick succession. They moved often but were fortunate to stay mostly in the Midwest where both kids were competitive swimmers. As such, she spent countless memorable hours driving around the Midwest, volunteering at swim meets and becoming a true swim mom. The family spent three extraordinary years at Ramey AFB in Puerto Rico. The white sand beaches and the Caribbean were heaven on earth to Marilyn. They were then transferred to McConnell AFB in Wichita where they remained after Glenn’s retirement.
Marilyn found a home at Plymouth Congregational Church, where she worked for 25 years, wearing many hats – teacher, secretary, printer, flower arranger, kitchen help and money counter. She was fondly dubbed Mother Superior due to her knowledge and administration of all things Plymouth. Many called her the heart and soul of the church. In 1999 she reluctantly retired; finding it very hard to let go she continued to volunteer for many years. She and Glenn became members of the church early on in her career and both were very involved for the rest of their lives. In 2004 she proudly received Plymouth’s prestigious Horning Award given annually to honor outstanding service to the church. In addition to her church interests she also enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, needlepoint and crewel.
Marilyn and Glenn enjoyed traveling with friends. Trips to Alaska and Hawaii were highlights, as were trips to Lawrence, Atlanta and New Jersey to visit grandchildren and great grandchildren. Marilyn continued to travel for years with three close friends, living a very full life.
