Marilyn S. Bornhorst

Loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother – Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, Ted F. and Loretta Martin. Survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” J. Bornhorst, and children, Sandra (Don) Ring, Greg (Amy) Bornhorst, Deborah Marr (David Weideman), and Steven (Nicole) Bornhorst; grandchildren, Nakai Marr (fiancé, Nicholas Smith), Hanna (Nicolas) Custer, Ashley (Jason) Brandt, Tyler (Lexi) Bornhorst, Paige Bornhorst, Shaelyn Marr, Carley (Matthew) Cherry, Rebecca Ring, Trenton (Jordyn) Bornhorst; great grandchildren, Cooper, Trevor, Amina, Maizie, Elsie, Brooks, Eden, Peyton, and Olivia.

Marilyn, an only child, was born on October 1, 1941, in Clinton, MO. She was baptized, confirmed, and married Bob in the Catholic church. After attending college, she returned to Kansas City where she met Bob on a blind date. They married on October 7, 1961. Bob’s jobs as a FAA Specialist relocated them to several cities in the Midwest. They eventually settled in Wichita in 1973, where they raised four amazing children. As the children grew older and more independent, Marilyn went back to the workforce, finding the balance between work, family, and the many sporting events that came with four active children. Marilyn and Bob enjoyed every aspect of their family’s lives. You could always find them cheering at a ballgame, concert, theater production, horse/dog show, commencement, and so much more. Spending time with family was one of her greatest joys in life, of which they never wanted to miss a single moment. Friendships were a priority to Marilyn. She cherished her friends and extended family beyond measure.

Marilyn had a love for reading and traveling. She especially looked forward to their annual trip to Florida. Memories of hiking in the mountains, relaxing on the beach, and fishing on the lake are memorialized in the many photos gracing their home.

Marilyn’s unwavering faith, love of family, and joy of friends created a beautiful life to be cherished. She lived a life of grace, style, laughter, and strength! The legacy of her family and strong friendships is the result of a life well loved.

A Rosary will be held at 10:00am followed by Mass at 10:30am, Saturday, August 23, 2025, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Burial will follow Mass at Resurrection Cemetery, 1640 N. Maize Road, Wichita, KS 67212. Following the burial, please return to the church for a luncheon in Clare Hall.
