Marjorie Harshbarger (Marge) Latas
February 13, 1930 ~ October 18, 2010
Latas, Marjorie (Marge) Harshbarger, passed away Monday, October 18, 2010. She was born on February 13, 1930 in Topeka, Kansas, the second of two children of Frank Victor and Wilma Perry Harshbarger. She obtained a degree from Washburn University in 1952 with marriage following soon after that and a move to Wichita, KS. She was a long-time member of Pilgrim Congregational Church and served as organist for 28 years until retiring in 2008. She participated in almost all activities there and became a respected source of church history. Although her major was in English, her passion was music which was enhanced by her studies at Washburn and by active membership in Sigma Alpha Iota, an International Music Fraternity. Her outgoing personality, thoughtfulness and friendly smile will be greatly missed ~ especially by a multitude of relatives and friends who could always count on a timely birthday greeting. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Joe, and by daughters, Karen Jean of Hesston, KS. and Nancy Jo of Overland Park, KS. She was preceded in death by daughter, Janet Kay Mitchell in 1984 and by her brother, Frank Victor Harshbarger Jr., in 2006. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, December 4, at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 6000 East Harry in Wichita. Memorial contributions may be sent to the church. Condolences and memories can be sent to www.dlwichita.com Downing Lahey East.

Nancy & Karen, Sorry to hear about your mom. She was always a super nice person! I remember when we were kids, she would always fix us peanut butter & honey sandwiches, or cookies & a pop for a mid afternoon snack. The other thing I will always remember was how she was always so particular about any weed in her flowers–sometimes I think she was the only one who could see them! Best wishes & miss the old days!!
Joe, Sorry to hear about your wife. Hope you and your family are doing well during this sorrowful time. I wish you well as you go on with your life and if you ever end up across the lake again, give me a holler.
