Marlene Barkley passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at the age of 84. Born in a house in a pasture near Viola, Kansas. She was blessed beyond measure with many beautiful seasons, family, dogs, cattle and Bob Seger music and full moons throughout her life. As a youngster, she was fascinated with dirt and all the many wondrous things it could produce. Outdoors was her favorite place to be. One of her priceless treasures were her grandparents…John and Laura Pauly and Margaret Schauf. Waiting for her arrival is husband, James Barkley. and sister, Norma Jean Halsey. She still couldn’t wrap her head around the possibility of being an angel!! She is survived by children: Brad (Vic) Barkley, Kent (Kathy) Barkley, Karla (Smitty Smith) Barkley and Jody Alloway; eleven grandchildren, Geoff (Kelly) Barkley, Amy (Matt) Pierce, Miah (Nicole) Fisher, Bob (Alisha) Fisher, Michael (Nicole) Barkley, Amanda (Jeff) McMllin, Kyle (Amber) Barkley, Rick Smith, Kendra Elliott, Cory Alloway and Kayl Barkley; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; siblings, Diann (Jay) Jones, Shorty Sterling, Larry (Deanna) Pauly, Earl Jr. (Julie) Pauly; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Dr. John May, Dr. Husam Bakdash, Dr. Janie Pirner and Cinda Medina for their healing expertise and friendships. No services will be held per Marlene’s request. A memorial has been established with: Passageways, 6841 W. Shade Lane, Apt. 202, Wichita, KS 67212. Downing & Lahey West Mortuary.

  1. Thoughts and prayers to all of the family! Marlene was the kindest, sweetest woman. Always loved to talk and catch up with everyone she would see. Dearly loved her cows she could watch out in the field surrounding her home. You will be missed by so many Marlene. Love you always!

  2. Marlene was an angel to me when I was going through chemo. I loved seeing her every day talking and laughing with kids during lunch at Kyle Trueblood. She walked through the golden door to heaven and she will be missed! Sending prayers and hugs to her wonderful family!!!

  3. I feel very blessed to have had this lady in my life. She was a kind generous soul who loved the simple things in life. We lost a good one. RIP My sympathy to all her family. MJ Doll
