Martha Jan Tangeman of Wichita, KS, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Born in Katy, Texas, Jan graduated from Wichita North High School and attended Northeast Louisiana State College. She was married to John Tangeman and raised their family in Wichita. Jan was an avid tennis player and was involved in her women’s PEO International group. She was a strong woman of great class and elegance, much a representation of her generation. Jan demanded the highest caliber from those closest to her, while at the same time showering them with love and affection. She is already sorely missed.
Jan is preceded in death by her husband, John Tangeman; parents, Larry Preston Walker and Mattie Giddens; siblings, HM Walker, Larry Walker Jr., and Mary Miller. She is survived by her children, Eric Tangeman and Mark Tangeman; granddaughters, Malory Tangeman-Elfanagely (Omar), Whitney Stevens (Mikey); and great-grandsons, Max, John, and Paul. Other surviving relatives include nephew, Dale Miller; nieces, Teri Walker Hoenemeyer and Cathy Hoover, and Danielle Shamsie Prejean. Jan wished to be remembered by those who loved her in the way most akin to her true nature: gracefully, quietly, and humbly. She wished for little fanfare and requested that no services be held in her remembrance.
Services in care of Downing & Lahey Mortuary - East Chapel.
Where do I begin in praising the wonderful person that Jan Tangemann was? She radiated beauty, grace and dignity. She was genuinely who she was and not the least bit pretentious. Jan was a woman of strong character and integrity. She was known for her generosity and kindness. Jan adored her granddaughters and spoke highly of them. It was always a special treat to be in her presence. Gone too soon. May she rest in peace. Much love to the family.
