Preceded in death by daughter, Dalene Noyce; grandson, C.J. Noyce; parents, Beulah and Herman Pickens; brothers, Wilford and Billy Pickens, and recently her nephew, Bob Pickens. Survivors: husband, Bill; son, Daniel; daughter, Karen Long; two live-in-home grandsons, Brian and Brent Foster; five other grandchildren and one great-grandson; brothers, James of Wichita, Larry of Canon City, CO, Bill and Leroy both of Doniphan, MO, Herman, Jr., of Poplar Bluff, MO, Charlie of Kingman, AZ; sisters, Mary Lou Morris of Derby, Janice Thacher of Towanda and Shirley Zwierzynski of Bryon, MI. To honor the memory of Dalene Marie Noyce and C.J. Noyce, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Special Needs Foundation, 424 N. Broadway, Wichita, KS 67202. Martha and Bill both retired in 2002 after they had operated the Pheasant Club for 15 years and the Copper Cue Game Room for 29 years. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2012. Martha was very creative. She could come home with an old hoe, shovel, lawn furniture or even an old wheelbarrow and paint some red hibiscus on it and have one of her show pieces. Whether it was cooking, sewing or painting, she was an expert. A very memorable and proud period of her life was the time she spent at College of the Ozarks outside of Branson, MO. For the benefit of those in the medical community who tried so hard to help Martha, Bill wanted to share the recently learned information from the muscle and nerve biopsies performed by the Mayo Clinic. It was determined that Martha had Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP) which caused progressive weakness and eventually took her life. Downing Lahey Mortuary West. Rosary, 7:00 P.M., Monday, December 19, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church

  1. I just read the obituary of Martha. I was diagnosed in 1990-1991 with chronic inflammatory demylinating polyneuropathy. i had become almost paralyzed…it took 3 months to get a diagnosis. I was sent to M.D. Anderson for tests and 1,000 mg. of methylprednisone in the veins for 5 days; 4 mos. later symptoms returned with misery between…neurologist did same treatment at St.Joseph in Wichita – 4 mos. and symptoms returned. I decided I would just die as I was not going through that again. Someone handed me the card of Dr. Milton Dowty, a Kinesiologist and they said they thought he could help me!!! I had no faith in this but since I was going to die anyway, I went. He put me on candida yeast prevention tablets and took me off all yeast for 3 months. With that and treatment I was walking.I researched this and decided on Immunoglobulin infusions…first in the home very often and then in the hospital ..I now get them every 6 mos. My neurologist when diagnosed was Dr. Abbas who is retired. My new neurologist is Dr. Janice Mullinix. I still have a residue of neuropathy along woith curvature of spine (scolosis), stenosis and some protruding discs. I have never had to have surgery due to Dr. Dowty’s care. If I trip I have no ability to catch myself…something in the brain seems to not connect to my balance. I am 81 and doing quite well, using a cane in the house and a walker outside the home. Have taken a fall due to carelessness and am almost completely recuperated from a broken right wrist and damage to left knee. I am so sorry to hear about Martha. I do not know what treatmet was used. I only know one person, much younger than me who has died of this. There doesn’t seem to be a large patient base for this very rare disorder so little is said about it and it can be hard to diagnose. My neice has 3 autoimmune disorders but not CIDP and she is very active. My aim is to make people aware of this disorder and the alternatives to prednisone. If any family member will write me the details of her treatment, I would appreciate it. My email addres is nellthenut@cox.net. Again I extend my deepest sympathy to the family. Sincerely, Nell McDiffett Derby, KS

  2. Hello Uncle Bill, you and your family have been in my prayers for some time, ever since mom told me about her recent condition. I want to you know how special you and Aunt Martha were to me. Especially during the holiday season on Christmas Eve. I appreciate everything you did for our family. We have some great childhood mmemories because of your warm and generous spirit. Aunt Martha was such a inspiration to me. She showed a lot of pride in her family. I really admire that in her and you. I love you and pray that you are doing well.

  3. Bill & family, so sorry to read Martha’s obituary. I remember the two of you working at the Pheasant Lounge back in the 1960’s. You were always so pleasant and such a great place to party with friends. I felt like the place was my second home. I know I spent many hours there. Bob & I met there and the rest is history.
