Jo Winslow, 78, died October 8, 2020, with her children by her side. She was born in December of 1941 in Schenectady, New York. She graduated from Linton High School in Schenectady in 1959. While working as a flight attendant for Central Airlines, she married James R. (Jim) Winslow on January 18, 1964, in Overland Park, Kansas. As she raised her three children, Donna, Keri, and David, she completed a Bachelor of Education degree, graduating Summa cum Laude from St. Mary of the Plains college in 1989. She taught third grade in Liberal, Kansas until 2000. She and Jim retired to their “farm” in Blanchard, Oklahoma in 2002, where she tutored students in reading, entertained her children and ten grandchildren, and worked to help found Agape Baptist Church. Her grandchildren were George and Madeline, Margaret, Sophia, Eleanor, Anna and Julia, and Katherine, Theodore, and Timothy. After the death of Jim 2017, she finished her years living with her daughter and son-in-law and grandchildren in Valley Center, Kansas. She was passionate about helping children learn to read, teaching art to her children and grandchildren, teaching piano to her granddaughter, sewing for her family, and crafting beautiful quilts. She worked hard to help with the ministries of Agape Baptist Church, and despite their small size the church sent over a thousand shoeboxes through Operation Christmas Child during her time there. To honor this devotion, donations can be sent in her memory to Samaritan’s Purse using this link: https://www.samaritanspurse.org/memorial-page/jo-winslow-blanchard-ok/ Downing and Lahey Mortuary - East Chapel.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I am so sorry to hear of Jo’s passing. She was an extremely creative and loving lady. I thought of her with fond memories just the other day as I was preparing one of her recipes. We shared lots of good times as our children grew up together in Liberal. Our thoughts are with Donna, Keri and David , knowing you have lots of wonderful memories to bring smiles to your tears.

  2. We have found memories of Jo and Jim, our best friends in Liberal, KS, being in church together, our children growing up together, many meals shared, playing bridge, Jo and I taking art classes, helping in 4H activities. We loved them both and are thankful for the time we had with them. Our love and prayers to their children. You three are fortunate to have had such loving Christian parents. Howard and Jane Bradfield
