Martin Potash, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend joined his wife, Esther, in eternity on Friday, February 28, 2020. Born in The Bronx, New York on November 11, 1937, he joined the U.S. Army at a young age and was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. There he met the love of his life, Esther. They married in 1957, settled in Wichita, Kansas where they raised two daughters. Their fifty-five year marriage exemplified love, commitment and total dedication to their family. In the early 1960s, Marty, an entrepreneur at heart, started the business he lived for and loved for over fifty years, Aircraft Instrument & Radio Co., Inc. With dozens of employees in Wichita and multiple international offices, the business served the global airline industry until he sold the business in 2017. He treated his employees like his family, and made hundreds of lifelong friendships over the years within the industry. He never met a stranger, and will be remembered for his ever-present sense of humor and gentle manner. Martin was preceded in death by his wife Esther, both of his parents and his sister, Beverly.  He is survived by two daughters, Debbie (Marty) Clem and Melanie (Mark) Combs; four grandchildren, Ryley (Ryan) Clem, Katie (Spencer) Gunzelman, Abigail (Jeff) Miller and Benjamin Hatfield; two great grandchildren, Jonathan Gunzelman and Collins Clem; four step grandsons, Tyler Combs, Jacob (Shannon) Combs, Miles (Amy) Combs and Cody (Casey) Combs; step great-grandchildren, Avery, Isaac, Peyton, Jackson, Dawson and Oliver; his sister Phyllis (Thomas) Torres; brother Larry (Jackie) Schleyer and beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, March 5, 2020, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.

  1. Melanie, so sorry for your loss. I loved your father, Marty was a GREAT man, I saw him grow his business from a one room place on Douglas to a multi conglomeration building spread at the airport. He was always there when I needed a donation for my various Baseball teams. He was a great customer as well. I was happy to present him with that ‘Starship’ Trophy. He will live forever in my heart as one of my favorite people.

  2. Rest Martin, until you hear at dawn, the low, clear reveille of God. Thank you for your service to this nation.

  3. My heart is hurting as I heard of the passing of this great man. I had a lot of respect for him as a friend, founder, mentor and just good old boy. When ever we talked it always started with talking about his family first, something he was very proud of and loved them all. Then we would talk about business… 🙂 As I’m sure this is a hard time for you but knowing he is sitting next to the one he loved the most and there both watching over you should be reassuring. If there is anything I can do for you please let me know As I loved your father very much, and would and will do anything for that man. I am a better man having known and learned from this great man. Love Phil

  4. Bud and I extend our deepest sympathy to the Potash family. May these words of sympathy ease the sorrow that you bear and may it bring you comfort just to know that others care. Peace be with you. Jeanne and Bid Boudreau

  5. Marty, a friend since the Henry’s days, a delightful foursome luncheon companion. If we agreed on the topic of the day we were obviously ill informed. Never a dull moment, always a mutual laugh as well as sharing his pride of family, the vicissitude of business, travel and memories of old friends. I’m thankful for our friendship, and can only salve the void by Ron and I keeping his memory alive. Our condolences to a wonderful family. Jack and Connie Glaves

  6. Denise and I pray that the Good Lord will guide you thru this difficult time. Marty exemplified the qualities of a great man, sincerity, honesty and love for his family. Over the past years I had the pleasure of visiting with him often, his interest in the stock market and expertise was second to none. He has begun a new chapter, joining those that have left this world for God’s promise of eternal life, and please seek comfort in the knowledge that he is in God’s hands.
